DSRC communication or short-range wireless communication technology enables vehicles and other users on the roads to communicate with each other and therefore it is popularly known as a dedicated communication technology which can be used over the short range. Researchers have determined that a range of 1 km is generally achievable by drivers using this technology.
DSRC communication along with 802.11P is capable of ensuring a general interoperable safety standard for vehicles of all types regardless of their size, model or make in order to help to prevent crashes, reduce congestion and to optimize the flow of traffic. DSRC is proving to be the key foundation for the vehicle to vehicle and vehicle to infrastructure safety because it enables effective communication by providing connectivity to users of the road which have until this moment never been linked to each other on a large scale.
